John Rothwell on Yule Traditions in the Ancient World 22DEC19

Christmas is very new as a celebration. Yet, humans have been marking the transition of the days getting shorter and the nights getting longer to the nights getting shorter and the days longer for thousands of years. The Romans celebrated Saturnalia at the time of the winter solstice. As John reminded us, as of today, we have only 90 more days to spring!

John Rothwell: Cultivating an Attitude of Gratitude

In this practical message just before the Thanksgiving Holiday 2019, John shared with us the scientifically demonstrated benefits of practicing gratitude. He and his wife are almost through a one year experiment in practicing gratitude. He also presented a twelve day “introductory practice” guide, that anyone can use. See also his printed guide to the benefits of practicing gratitude, below the sermon audio file.

Bradley Moore: “God, Jr. Here…What are you praying for?”

Reverend Bradley K. Moore, long-time friend of the church, came from Lansing to share his wisdom with us. One of his messages is that we can empower ourselves and claim our spiritual inheritance by understanding the reality of reincarnation. Note: Sermon is actually over at 26:37.

Yes, life can be difficult, but we are the individuals who wanted this experience in this body, part of our path toward perfection of the soul, rendering it fit for re-unification with God. Nature wastes nothing, certainly not human souls!

Introduction to Islam: Guest Lecture by Saleem Durvesh on June 16, 2019

Saleem spoke about the five pillars of Islam. He answered our questions. Please listen to the recording of his presentation and the question and answer session following. Saleem noted that there is nothing totally new in Islam. The Prophet Mohamed was bringing morality back into a corrupted world. But I found the Muslim concept that God has no relatives (no kids, wives, etc.) interesting, and I think it is different from the other major religions, even Judaism. Our VP really liked Saleem’s explanation of the “72 Virgins” concept!
